Homeless Man Gives Church a True Meaning

Image
"Being a Christian is more than something you claim. It’s something you live by and share with others"   Pastor Jeremiah Steepek transformed himself into a homeless person and went to the 10,000 member church that he was to be introduced as the head pastor at that morning. He walked around his soon to be church for 30 minutes while it was filling with people for service….only 3 people out of the 7-10,000 people said hello to him. He asked people for change to buy food….NO ONE in the church gave him change. He went into the sanctuary to sit down in the front of the church and was asked by the ushers if he would please sit in the back. He greeted people to be greeted back with stares and dirty looks, with people looking down on him and judging him. As he sat in the back of the church, he listened to the church announcements and such. When all that was done, the elders went up and were excited to introduce the new pastor of the church to the congregation……..”We would lik...

Biblical Evidence for the Godhead

Image
By David J. Stewart "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and THESE THREE ARE ONE." —1st John 5:7        The Bible, God’s Word, proclaims that there is ONE God (Deuteronomy 6:4), Who has revealed Himself to mankind in three distinct Persons; namely, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Although the term “Trinity” is not found in the Scriptures, the word “Godhead” most certainly is — in 3 places! Romans 1:19, 20 states… “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and GODHEAD ; so that they are without excuse.” Some people (such as Muslims) foolishly claim that belief in a Godhead (aka, Trinity) means worship of three gods...

Deborah - A woman of spirit

Image
It is often said that the world of the Bible was a patriarchal society in which God always chose to act, speak and reveal the divine purposes through men. It is quite probable that you are not familiar with the story of Deborah from the book of Judges, especially since the letter to the Hebrew in the New Testament singles out Barak as one of the great heroes of faith in ancient Israel when it refers to this story – an interpretation that is somewhat at odds with the narrative that we heard read this morning. The name Deborah is the normal Hebrew word for a bee or a hornet – and it sounds very similar to the feminine form of the Hebrew participle meaning ‘one who speaks’. So is the name encouraging us to anticipate a woman who will produce the honey that Israel expected to flow in the Promised Land, or a woman who will speak in mellifluous tones? – or perhaps the writer is preparing us for a story with a sting in its tail. There is only one other woman in the Hebrew Bible called D...

The Kingdom vs The World - How they see things

Image
The church within the context of the kingdom of God is an inverse parallel of the secular world, if we imagine the world as a pyramid standing upright and the church/ kingdom of God as an upside down pyramid we can reference an accurate idea of this parallel. The way of the world then is to climb to the top of the pyramid while the way of the kingdom is to climb to the bottom. This mode of operation confuses the world which lives from the natural senses; spiritual things must be spiritually discerned. When the world sees kingdom people climbing to the bottom of the upside down pyramid; their eyes say “Look they are going down in life”, and when their eyes see anyone who names the name of Christ climbing to the top of the upside down pyramid which is our figure of the kingdom in this exhortation; their eyes say “Look that one is wise, she is successful in ministry and life”. James 1:9 -           Let the brother of low degree ...
