Why are there so few men in church; do men hate church?
In a society where men have been told through the use of movies, songs and through a whole host of mediums that being “macho” is the way to go, some men find surrendering to anyone emasculating; even surrendering to Christ but that’s only one piece of the puzzle in the grand scheme of a huge collage.
These days success is the word on the majorities tongue and let’s be honest, millennials are quite the “Go getters”, even some of the more spiritual women to be found in churches are looking for young men who’ve “Got it made” for lack of a better term. This in itself sends the signal to family minded young men and men in general that they need cheddar even if it means skipping church a few Sundays to rest after grinding all week “Saint better have my money!” any one?
Another issue which must be highlighted is simply this: there are few good Godly role models which are men on the church scene these days and by the time a brother in the Lord meets up on a “brotha” in the streets, divine intervention is their only hope of spiritually geared interaction cause let’s be honest with ourselves: this world isn’t exactly a big fan of Christianity even if we would like to think so.
With all the pressure on men to be successful early in life, be good in bed and possess a John Claude Van-dam physique; coupled with a gospel which is being watered down to make numbers instead of disciples; this writer concurs that men don’t necessarily hate church but simply can’t find a good enough reason to go (“I say this in line with the context of this article”). After all the good looking church sisters who once upon a time would attract a misguided non-believing man if the word wasn’t his motive for heading to church; are now being enticed by the man instead, and this goes both ways with gender… As the old saying goes “It’s a jungle out there”.
Please be advised these words are just my two cents on the matter and there are still multiple angles than can be considered.
